Living the 6B Life
My Story as a Global Surgeon in Africa and Beyond
Donald E. Meier, MD
Don’s story as chronicled here is the story of a remarkable life—a missionary doctor investing his life in teaching native doctors—but with a standing invitation when back in the states to teach at a major medical school. Don’s memoir will be precious to many contemporary readers who will be inspired by reading his story. There is lots of faith, hope, love and courage in this book. And this description of a person of great earnestness and conviction and faith does not adequately convey just how witty and plain funny this book is in places.

Bravo! Bravo ! What a great story! These people made an incredible difference wherever they went to provide medical care for people without any, training doctors in Africa and having inevitable adventures...This story is about meaningful lives spent in service to strangers who needed their help I encourage anyone to read this book...

Hope Beyond Darkness
12 Fathers Share Their Stories of Loss and Journeys Through Grief
Hisashi Nikaidoh, MD and Janis Leibs Dworkis
This book takes you on a journey into the most deep personal experiences and thoughts of fathers who have lost a child. Each story is unique and painful but the common denominator that connects them all is hope, love, and purpose. Every person travels differently and there is an unexpected connectivity that the authors reveal throughout the stories. I was profoundly impacted by this book and will purchase more copies to give to others., Everyone knows someone, if not themselves, who has lost a child. I believe that there is something important for all of us to learn from it.

‘Poignant’ seems inadequate to fully describe this book. Even more than the stories so selflessly told by the fathers was my realization of how deeply connected we become through life’s events. And knowing that we don’t always know what others are experiencing.

My Mother's Curse
A Journey Beyond Childhood Trauma
Christine Nicolette-Gonzalez
"Christine Nicolette-Gonzalez is an extremely gifted storyteller. The moments that she shares are both heartbreaking and brilliant. With each glimpse into the life of this family, we feel the emotion, we understand the pain and frustration, and we see the growth of the narrator." 28th Writer's Digest Book Awards
Christine Nicolette-Gonzalez’s memoir My Mother’s Curse recounts her life-long journey to reconcile her feelings about her mentally ill, sometimes abusive mother. Deprived of a stable, secure maternal presence in her childhood, Christine struggled to manage her anxiety and to develop a healthy self-perception. She drew strength and solace from her stalwart father, her belief in God, and the refuges of reading and writing poetry. Christine offers hope to any reader with similar struggles: hope in a loving God, hope in the affirmation of the self, hope in the goodness of humanity. She assures us that seeking professional counseling and the support of friends is not an admission of weakness but rather an entrée to sensible coping mechanisms and peaceful circumspection.

Author Christine Nicolette-Gonzalez’s book is a must-read for anyone working through personal trauma or living/working with a person with unresolved trauma. It is a fascinating and healing read. Christine’s willingness to share the darkest moments of her life makes her an incredibly inspirational hero to all who are struggling with fear, shame, and feelings of instability that are left over from a childhood shadowed by a parent with mental illness. The hope that this book inspires is a gift to humanity.

My Mother’s Curse sheds light on the debilitating impact mental illness can have on family members, especially on children of parents who do not remain treatment compliant. I found this book both compelling and transformative as it walks the reader through the journey of pain and trauma from a child’s eyes to the transforming healing that occurs when unconditional love, professional assistance, forgiveness, and understanding are all a part of the healing process. It is a must-read.
